Defend ANC Ramaphosa tells Ugu

The President pleaded with Ugu residents to defend the gains of the ANC government.

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa crisscrossed KZN, including Ugu District, canvassing for votes last weekend.

Ramaphosa met Shelly Beach residents during his walkabout programme and listened to their outcry over water issues. He promised to work with Ugu to deal with the matter before proceeding on a door-to-door programme in Mtwalume’s Ward 10.

The President pleaded with Ugu residents to defend the gains of the ANC government, saying that positive things have been achieved since the downfall of the Apartheid government in 1994, but that much more still needs to be done to improve the lives of all South Africans.

“Yes, we are human beings, mistakes have been made, but more positives than negatives have been gained, so people must rise up and defend these gains and vote for the ANC in the national and provincial government elections on May 29.”

Ramaphosa addressed scores of ANC supporters at a rally at Sibanini Sports Ground in Ward 10 in Mtwalume last Sunday afternoon.

Alongside Ramaphosa were the KZN ANC chairperson Siboniso Duma, ANC national election manager Mdumiseni Ntuli, ANC Tolomane Mnyayiza regional leaders led by regional chairperson Mondli Chiliza, regional deputy chairperson Sikhumbuzo Mqadi and regional secretary Xolani Luthuli and deputy secretary Zodwa Mzindle.

The President said the ANC has experienced leaders in government as a liberation movement that fought against Apartheid and strove for a better life for all. “Many people’s lives have been changed for the better but we still need to do more.”

He said the ANC is going to elections with a positive service delivery outcome than opposition parties that have not done a single thing for the people of South Africa.

“We are not going to the elections with dreams but with tangible and positive things that we have delivered to the people to change their lives. We built houses for people, roads, bridges, community halls and schools. We fed learners at schools and financially supported about 1. 2 million students from SA universities. We will invest in early childhood development. We will transfer creches from the Department of Social Development to the Department of Basic Education,” said Ramaphosa.

Also, he said the ANC government delivered pension grants to old people of South Africa every month and paid grants to disabled persons, as well as, child support grants to all newborn babies. “We built hospitals and delivered better health services to South Africans,” said Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa pleaded with people to vote for the ANC to create more jobs, and expand the public works programmes and infrastructure development projects.

“We will facilitate local investments by developing more industries that will stimulate local economic growth and create more sustainable jobs for the unemployed. We have created more than 1.2 million jobs through our Expanded Public Works Programme,” said Ramaphosa.
