Silver for Tyler at karate champs

Both athletes qualify for KZN colours.

Two elite athletes from Suid Natal Martial Arts Academy represented Ugu and KZN at the KSA National U21, Senior, Veterans and Masters Karate Championships in Cape Town from March 1-3.

The national tournament brought together senior athletes from all over South Africa and the competition was fierce.

Tyler Hogan took part in the senior kata category, where he earned silver in an extremely closely contested final.
It saw an initial tie between the athletes before Tyler narrowly lost out on the gold medal.

Divan du Toit competed in the U21 kumite U67kg category and placed a respectable seventh. It was a hotly contested, difficult category.

In representing their province on a national stage both athletes, who qualify for KZN colours, have done the region and province proud.

The junior elite karateka are wished everything of the best when they represent the province at the KSA Children’s and Junior Championships in Durban from April 4-7.
