Uvongo library to reopen on Saturdays

Ray Nkonyeni Municipal spokesperson Simon April confirmed that the library will be open on Saturdays.

The news that Uvongo Library will reopen on Saturdays from April has brought relief to the Uvongo Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association (URRA).

After many attempts of pleading with Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) to reopen, the chairperson of the URRA, Hardus Coetzee, said he finally got a commitment from RNM.
Coetzee told Fever that the library had to be accessible to young people.

“I now have a commitment from the new RNM community services head of department, who said it will reopen in April and on a trial run for two months. We need to notify the broader public to support the library so that they can better themselves, apply for jobs, get better marks at school, and empower themselves,” he said.

He added that the library can help young people who are from rural areas because they have limited access to such resources.

Meanwhile, RNM spokesperson, Simon April, confirmed that the library will reopen on Saturdays.
He said the Department of Arts and Culture is yet to recommend the appointment of a Cyber Cadet at the Uvongo Library, saying that all libraries that open on Saturdays have one.

“The decision of whether to open the library on Saturdays or not is based on statistics and the level of patrons. After receiving a few requests to open, we then decided to give it a try starting from the first week of April and depending on the number of patrons, this could be a permanent arrangement,” said April.
