New community hall for Umuziwabantu

Umuziwabantu Municipality mayor Siboniso Zungu said the construction of a spacious 711.30m² community hall is aimed at accommodating various events and gatherings.

A sod-turning ceremony was recently held by Umuziwabantu Municipality to mark the start of construction of the Mazakhele Community Hall in Ward 11.
The ceremony was led by Umuziwabantu mayor Siboniso Zungu.

Zungu said the scope of work for the hall includes clearing the construction site, installing changing rooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, office space to facilitate administrative functions and community services, construction of an ablution block, installation of a Clear-Vu fence and gate, provision of ample parking facilities, thoughtful landscaping and more.

Zungu said the construction of a spacious 711.30m² community hall is aimed at accommodating various events and gatherings.

“The construction of the Mazakhele Community Hall is a direct response to the earnest requests and input of the local community, voiced during extensive public participation programmes. The project reflects the municipality’s commitment to actively engaging with residents and addressing their needs effectively. With a projected duration of eight months, the construction aims to provide a multi-functional space that will serve as a vital hub for social, cultural, and economic activities within the area. As construction gets under way, we are confident that the facility will not only signify the fulfillment of a promise, but also the empowerment and enrichment of the locals,” said Zungu.

Meanwhile, the municipality held another sod-turning ceremony for Stafford Street in Harding (Ward 3) which will soon be rehabilitated.

The ceremony was also led by Zungu, the speaker of council, Petros Shebi, deputy mayor Nonhlanhla Luthuli, and members of the municipal council.

Zungu said the rehabilitation on Stafford Street will take three months to complete, saying that the scope of work includes roadbed preparation, cut to fill, surfacing, stormwater management (kerbs and 450mm diameter pipes) and traffic signs.

Zungu said through collaborative efforts and effective project management, the Stafford Street project will portray the municipality’s dedication to improving the quality of life for its residents.
