No water in Gamalakhe’s Ward 5

Ugu District spokesperson, France Zama said they were not made aware of water issues in Ward 5

Residents in Ward 5 in Gamalakhe have been without water for over two weeks.
They told Fever that their water tanks are now starting to run dry, adding that what is more worrying is that neighbouring areas have water.

Ugu District spokesperson, France Zama said the municipality was not made aware of water issues in Ward 5, saying that they will assign technicians to the area, to determine the cause of the problem.

However, Ward 5 residents who did not want to be named said Ugu technicians came out and inspected a pipe in the area which seems to be the problem, but their water has not yet been restored.

“It would be understandable if the whole of Gamalakhe was struggling without water, but it is only just us. It has been weeks, and the water we had stored for emergencies is running out. What is more frustrating is that people from Ugu came through a few days ago, but they left without spending even an hour on the job. And, we still do not have water. What is ironic is that the councillor will come to us in a few months begging us to vote for his political party, but he is nowhere to be found when we are in such situations,” said the resident.
