Umdoni condemns vandalism of ablution facilities

Some of the repair work includes the replacement of cisterns and toilet seats, the painting and pressure washing of external walls, tiling of the floor and complete plumbing with stoppers.

After an outcry over the Scottburgh CBD and Taxi Rank ablution facilities sheltering vagrants, as well as vandalism, Umdoni Municipality has started repairs.

Recently, Umdoni Municipality’s acting mayor Mthandeni Mbutho and municipal manager, Thabisile Ndlela inspected the facility.

Mbutho said the repairs at the Scottburgh CBD and Taxi Rank are near completion. He added that it is anticipated that the project will be fully completed by the end of January.

“The scope of repair work includes the replacement of cisterns and toilet seats, the painting and pressure washing of external walls, tiling of the floor, complete plumbing with stoppers, paving, landscaping, tidying and cleaning up the site, and the replacement of doors and locks,” he said.

Mbutho added that the public’s concerns did not fall on deaf ears thus the repair work being conducted.

He said: “We plead with the public to refrain from vandalising these facilities as they are of great assistance to people in town. Vandalism of any structure hinders the progression of service delivery. We as the municipality condemn such acts and any person caught vandalising municipal infrastructure will face the full might of the law.”
