All to play for at Closed

Southern KZN are defending champions and will look to add another plaque to the huge wooden shield that is the trophy.

Southbroom Golf Club will host the Southern KZN Closed on Saturday, January 13. It will be played over 36 holes strokeplay for the A division and Individual Stableford for the B division. It serves as a warm-up of sorts to the annual KZN Country Districts Interzone tournament which will be held at Southbroom from March 8-10.
Southern KZN are defending champions and will look to add another plaque to the huge wooden shield that is the trophy. There is a chance SKZN will field two teams depending on player availability.

But if not, then there is definitely some competition for the last few places in the eight-man line-up. A number of local golfers have played for the KZN Mid-Amateur team at IPT in the past few years.
They are Gavin Sole (Southbroom), Matt Sutherland (Umdoni Park), Chris Zietsman (Selborne Park), Jan McDermott (Umdoni Park) and Jean-Marc Bouic (Southbroom).

Others in the mix include Robert Mavundla, Cameron Olivant, Graham Sole, David Rush, Cyprian Xolo, Nic Crossman, Gary Purtell and Grant Richards (all Southbroom), plus Koos Jacobs and Elvis Khawula (both Margate) and Sidney Shingange (Port Shepstone).

The Closed also gives others the chance to stake a claim for selection to the teams, should they so wish.
At the time of writing (January 2) there had been a lot of rain this summer, especially between Christmas and New Year. It’s possibly an understatement to say the course is lush. Hopefully, it will have seen some sun by the 13th.
Cost to enter is R350.
Handicap will be whatever your handicap is at Southbroom on the day.
Carts permitted for A and B divisions.
Cost for one cart for the day is R400 (so R200 each if sharing).
To book, contact David Rush on 083 7096912. Golfers may book in pairs or fourballs.
Pay upfront to SKZN Golf: NEDBANK current account: 1 800 001 630.
