Health department receives R5 million donation

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Health Nomagugu Simelane who received the donation, said the allocation and distribution of the donated items has already been done according to identified recipients from various districts.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health recently received a R5 million donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The donation was made up of specialised wheelchairs, spares and other tools for wheelchair repairs, a wheelchair training package for therapists who assess clients, a wheelchair repair training package for wheelchair repair workers, mobility aids such as walking sticks, walking frames and canes and audiology equipment, as well as hearing aids.

The MEC for Health Nomagugu Simelane who received the donation, said the allocation and distribution of the donated items has already been done according to identified recipients from various districts.
Simelane said no government in the world can work alone.

She said it was crucial that government partners with certain sectors and one of them is the religious sector.

“The religious sector has a vast number of people which we always use to convey our messages. During the Covid-19 period, we partnered with the religious sector in educating communities on the prevention of the pandemic as well as adherence to the regulations, since we could not have gatherings. Some churches have now ventured into assisting in the public health sector and we appreciate that and thank the Church of Jesus Christ for the Latter Saints for such a huge donation,” said Simelane.

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the church, area communications director Sandile Makasi, said the church values the opportunity to serve along with the Department of Health in KZN and intends to touch more lives.
Makasi said in a spirited call to prompt more people to make donations, he challenged the public to consider what each person can do for at least one person.
