Municipality aims to attract investors

Some 55 small businesses had an opportunity to showcase their products to potential buyers creating opportunities for acquiring long-term clients.

With the aim of creating an environment where the public and the private sector come together to network, share experiences and expertise, Umuziwabantu Municipality recently held a business fair and a business gala dinner.

Government Communication and Information System Ugu District regional communication co-ordinator, Khanyiso Seyisi, said the day started off with an exhibition that served as an excellent platform for Small, Medium and Micro enterprises (SMMEs) to promote and sell their brands, network with other industry players, new customers, and explore potential business opportunities within Umuziwabantu Municipality.

Seyisi said exceeding a target of 40 exhibitors, a total number of 55 small businesses had an opportunity to showcase their products to potential buyers creating opportunities for acquiring long-term clients.
He added that a gala dinner followed the business fair, saying that it was held at the Harding Country Club with the objective of bringing together entrepreneurs, business leaders, investors, and various key stakeholders in a comfortable environment to discuss investment opportunities and potential collaborations within Umuziwabantu.

During his address, Umuziwabantu Municipality mayor, Siboniso Zungu said the municipality emphasised the importance of both small businesses and the need to attract investors to Umuziwabantu.

“The municipality is committed to creating an environment where businesses can flourish. We have always believed in nurturing the talent and potential that thrives within our community, and this business fair has once again validated the immense talent and potential we have right here in Umuziwabantu. Without private sector investment our municipality will not be able to stimulate sustainable economic growth and create long-term employment opportunities for our people. As part of our effort to achieve this, we have recently concluded a land audit which was undertaken for the purpose of identifying valuable land that can produce a great return on investment for businesses willing to invest and set up their operations in the jurisdiction of Umuziwabantu,” said Zungu.
