Hospital raises R5000 for cancer awareness

Proceeds from a savoury sale and raffle tickets will go directly to the South Coast Hospice.

October was Cancer Awareness Month and the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital’s Pharmacy Department recently sold savouries to raise funds for local hospice services.

They managed to raise R5 000 and all proceeds from the savoury sale and raffle tickets will go directly to the South Coast Hospice, said the hospital’s public relations officer Phumza Morai.

Morai said the initiative demonstrates the pharmacy department’s compassion and concern for those affected by cancer.

She said it is also a demonstration of the power of community and compassion, saying that it shows that in the face of adversity, individuals and organisations can come together to make a significant difference.

Morai added that the pharmacy department’s commitment to supporting cancer initiatives is not just commendable, it is an inspiration to all, reminding everyone that even in the most challenging times, there can be ways to give hope and help to those in need.

“The hospital management commended the Pharmacy Department for their dedication to improving the lives of those in their community by raising R5 000 and we hope their efforts will inspire others to support those affected by cancer. South Coast Hospice as an organisation plays a pivotal role in the South Coast community by offering vital care and support to cancer patients and their families. The funds raised by the Pharmacy Department will help South Coast Hospice continue its essential work, including providing palliative care, counselling and assistance to cancer patients and their loved ones,” said Morai, adding that they had three raffle winners namely Neela Moodley, Nurse Thabisile Ngobe and Nurse Nomusa Ngeleka.

Morai said they received beautiful pampering hampers all sponsored by the pharmacy staff.
