The windy weather did not stop the Ugu Maskandi Festival from taking place at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe last Saturday.
The festival was hosted by Ugu Broadcasting Services and it featured renowned Maskandi artists such as Khuzani, Ntencane, Amageza Amahle, Amavikela Mbuso, Ezechala, Thwasa Lekhansela, Igcokama Elisha, Bahubhe, Phuzekhemisi, and more.
It also featured well-known television personalities such as Sibonile Ngubane who plays Difa on Mzansi Magic’s Umkhokha, Kini Shandu who is also on Umkhokha, Ukhozi FM’s Zimiphi ‘Zim Dollar’ Happiness Biyela, along with Smangele and Sbonelo Mhlongo from the TV show KwaNjomane.
Melusi Khwela of Ugu Broadcasting Services told Fever that the event was a big success.
He said they had initially targeted over 6000 revellers, adding that the number of attendees was achieved.
“Things happened that were beyond our control and limited the event such as the windy weather, one of the reasons why it did not start on time,” he said.
He added that there will definitely be another Ugu Maskandi Festival in 2024, saying that they are asking the public to also pray for good weather conditions for the days of the event.
Meanwhile, siblings Sthembiso Shazi, Thembela Xolo and Sthembile Shazi who attended the festival said aside from a few shortcomings, they genuinely enjoyed it.
