Local projects boost economic renewal

Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Nomasonto Motaung said community programmes that are linked to the Serenity Hills and Renishaw Coastal Precinct projects were making a significant impact on the lives of those who were unemployed.

The investment of both Serenity Hills and the Renishaw Coastal Precinct will be serious economic transformation for the country.
This was a sentiment shared by the Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Kenneth Morolong, when he led a media tour at Serenity Hills near Margate and Renishaw Coastal Precinct in Scottburgh, to showcase ongoing investment projects in KZN

Morolong was accompanied by Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Nomasonto Motaung, when he visited the Serenity Hills R800 million eco-estate and the R500 million Renishaw Coastal Precinct project.
Morolong said the community programmes that are linked to the two projects were making a significant impact on the lives of those who were previously unemployed.

He said Serenity Hills is meant to attract foreign investment while uplifting local communities on the mid-South Coast, saying that it has been included in the South African Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan after being honoured by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the fifth South African Investment Conference in April.

According to Morolong, the skills and entrepreneurial opportunities that have been created for young people at both Serenity Hills and Renishaw Coastal Precinct are very impressive.
The Development Director for Serenity Hills, Sam Wenger, said Serenity Hills launched Phase 1 of its units in the second half of 2022 and has already sold 50% of them, with national and international buyers also coming from Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Germany.

Wenger said through the Sweetdale Skills Centre, the development is also committed to investing in local communities to revitalise the area, adding that there are several community-driven projects already underway, with 100 jobs already created at Serenity Hills which fosters an environment conducive to job creation.

“We are so grateful to all the representatives from the Presidency, DTIC, and local municipalities for coming to Serenity Hills to get a first-hand experience of the work being done on this sustainable eco-estate. For there to be any real growth in the area, we need to include everyone in the development’s success, which means upskilling, educating, and employing local communities,” said Wenger.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN), Neville Matjie said he was pleased to see the progress registered by both projects which he described as important investments for the province.

“We have worked with both projects, coordinating the unblocking of bottlenecks in municipal processes so that the developments could run smoothly and timeously. As the provincial investment promotion agency, we reiterate that KwaZulu-Natal is open for business. We will continue to work and showcase the province’s competitive advantage and position as a world-class investment destination,” said Matjie.
