The hospital’s public relations officer, Phumza Morai said the event was aimed at giving employees a break from their demanding roles, fostering interaction with peers from other hospitals, and engaging in fun activities within a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

Morai said local hospitals included Murchison and GJ Crookes District hospitals, Primary Health Care and Gamalakhe Community Health Care Centre were invited to participate, along with the wellness management from the district office.

She said the event featured various activities tailored to cater to diverse interests and abilities such as soccer, netball, umlabalaba (board game), tug of war, egg and spoon race, wellness walk, and tae-bo.

“Although the event was non-competitive, Port Shepstone Hospital achieved first positions in umlabalaba and the wellness walk, while GJ Crookes Hospital excelled in soccer, and Murchison Hospital impressed in netball and tug of war. The attendees appreciated the opportunity to showcase their skills, connect with peers, and enjoy a day of healthy competition and relaxation. Additionally, the learners from St Martin’s added to the event’s charm with an engaging dance performance. Overall, the event strengthened team dynamics and fostered positive relationships among employees in the Ugu district,” said Morai.
