Actor bags role on Uzalo

Siphokuhle Luthuli said when he received the news of the role, he dropped his phone just to take a moment to process the news.

Banana Beach (Melville) resident, Siphokuhle Millicent Svuyile Luthuli recently bagged an acting gig on SABC 1’s Uzalo.
The 21-year-old secured the role of Sibongiseni, Captain Mondli Mdlalose’s son.
Luthuli said Sibongiseni is a young man who is driven by creativity, saying that art is his sanity.
He described Sibongiseni as a shy kid who tends to be sensitive to whatever disturbs his peace of mind.

“He doesn’t say a lot, just like his father but his work certainly speaks for him. He’s a good and respectful child, he smiles and laughs a lot but looks down whenever he speaks and rubs his hands as he is a shy person by nature, but he also reacts harshly here and there if you step on his toes or interfere with his personal life,” he said.
He added that when he received the news of the role, he dropped his phone just to take a moment to process the news.

Luthuli said: “I could not believe it, after so many years of studying, practising, and attending auditions. Up until today I still wake up in the morning and think it was just a dream.”
The actor explained that his love for acting started when he was still in high school where he majored in drama studies.

He said he completed his Grade 12 at the National School of the Arts (NSA) in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

“I did a lot of theatre shows when I was in NSA, many of them were at the Joburg Theatre and I always had the privilege of getting the main character role. I got full merit colours in drama studies when I was in matric (acting, musical performance, and directing). After matric, I enrolled at LBA Private Radio Academy where I studied and trained for broadcasting and I graduated in Multi-Media,” said Luthuli, adding that his goal is to be a full-time thespian.

He added he also wants to pursue a career in music since he is also a singer, rapper, and song writer.

“I also want to venture into the world of radio broadcasting but in terms of drama in the future, I see myself as a writer and director. And to my dearly beloved aspiring actors and actresses don’t give up, keep on pushing and polishing your craft. Sometimes these things take time but when it’s your time, it’s your time and no one can say anything. I am truly and deeply grateful for all the love and support I have received from the production team (Uzalo), the directors, crew, cast, my family, and close friends,” he said.
