Marburg man needs help with dialysis treatment

The Alvis Medical Fund was formally and legally constituted with trustees, along with a bank account to assist Alvis Govender.

The family of 54-year-old Alvis Govender of Marburg recently started the Alvis Medical Fund, to raise the necessary funds for Govender’s urgent dialysis treatment.

Govender’s brother, Vernon Govender, said they are desperately asking the public to assist by donating towards his brother’s medical treatment.

Vernon explained that Alvis has a long history of chronic illnesses such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, acute coronary syndrome, dyslipidemia; saying that dialysis is now the only option for his brother to stay alive.
He added that the Alvis Medical Fund was formally and legally constituted with trustees, along with a bank account to assist his brother.

“Being admitted at the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital at the beginning of the year with end Stage 5 renal failure, he was still unfortunately denied admission to the public Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital on the basis that he did not meet the criteria for dialysis and was subsequently discharged. With no private medical aid, Alvis has no other option but to find the required funds to get dialysis treatment at a private hospital or private dialysis treatment centre which comes with high costs,” he said.

Vernon added that Govender being the only breadwinner in his family, and with his health fast deteriorating, he unfortunately is no longer able to work, which is why they are asking the public for assistance.

He said Govender’s family members and friends have over the past few months rallied behind and met most of the costs which included consultations with a specialist physician nephrologist, insertion of a permanent catheter port, and many private dialysis sessions.

“But they have been financially constrained. That is why they have set up the Alvis Medical Fund and have humbly requested the assistance of the public and any other benefactors to kindly consider making donations of any amount to the fund as follows:
NAME OF ACCOUNT: Alvis Medical Fund
BANK : Nedbank
ACCOUNT NO. 2068601931
BRANCH CODE: 13982800
TYPE OF ACCOUNT: Club

He added that should there be any questions, you can contact the trustees Rita Moodley on 083 284 5142, Vernon Govender on 083 693 1771, Krish Govender on 082 892 8728, and Nalini Govender on 082 831 4842.
