RNM mayor to replace Ugu mayor

The position of mayor in Ugu became vacant following the death of former mayor, Phumlile Mthiyane, earlier this year.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) may soon be without a mayor.

This comes after the ANC Tolomane Mnyayiza Region has confirmed that RNM mayor, Sikhumbuzo Mqadi, will soon be sworn in as the new Ugu mayor.

Following a report by the Fever in March which started that Former MEC, Ravi Pillay was the preferred candidate for the position, sources have since told Fever that the appointment of Ugu District Municipality mayor was delayed because Mqadi’s name was also raised as a preferred candidate.

Also, these sources who did not want to be named told Fever that Ray Nkonyeni Municipality speaker of council, Zodwa Mzindle, could possibly replace Mqadi as mayor.

The ANC in Tolomane Mnyayiza Region recently confirmed that it had three candidates with Mqadi being the preferential one.

It added that Mqadi is soon expected to resign as mayor of RNM.

In Mqadi’s political and administrative career, aside from being RNM mayor, he has previously worked alongside Ravi Pillay while Pillay was still the KZN MEC for Human Settlements.

KZN ANC spokesperson, Mafika Mndebele confirmed that they had received three names from the Tolomane Mnyayiza Region, saying that they are very pleased with the names given.
