Local actress lands role in new drama

Her career goals include going all the way to Hollywood.

A number of South Coast women are building recognisable names for themselves in the entertainment industry, and Londeka Sishi is no exception.

The former Marburg Secondary pupil recently placed the South Coast on the map after she bagged a role on Showmax’s new drama, Adulting.

Sishi who plays Nkanyezi said for the longest time, after receiving the call, she thought she was dreaming or some weird joke was being played on her.

She described it as a surreal feeling, saying that she definitely saw the hand of God in it.

The show follows four best friends who go through the hoops of life, love and everything else. It premiered on March 20, with new episodes every Monday.

Tshedza Pictures’ co-founders Phathu Makwarela said: “Set in Johannesburg, Adulting explores the parallel universes of four varsity friends. Their strong bond has held them together even as their journeys in life have taken them in very different directions. Theirs is the bromance of the decade. Adulting is an eight-part age restricted drama and is the first Showmax Original from Tshedza Pictures.”

Speaking to Fever, Sishi said the character she plays, Nkanyezi, is Bonga’s (Thembinkosi Mthembu) love interest. She described Nkanyezi as a very driven career woman who is focused on securing the ‘bag’.

She added that she has always wanted to be an entertainer, saying that acting was certainly a big part of that.

“I had been dreaming and praying about it for so long and it didn’t happen, so much so, that I started to doubt whether or not it is the path I am called for. When it finally happened, it is a feeling I can’t explain,” said Sishi.

She added that her career goals include going all the way to Hollywood.
Sishi said there are a few roles that she would still love to play that will challenge her and show her abilities in her craft.

“I also want to write, produce and shoot my own stories. Also, I also have another role on 365 as Lumka Nkosi on 1Magic,” she said.

Meanwhile, in Adulting, Sishi stars alongside big names such as SAFTA nominee Winnie Ntshaba (House of Zwide, Generations), Lungile Duma (The River, Durban Gen) and Buhle Samuels (Kings of Jo’burg).
