One hundred events to celebrate iconic cricketing venue

100 years ago, the first test match was played at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium.

The KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union launched its Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium 100 Year celebrations last week.
This year marks 100 years since the first test match was played at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium and the KZN Cricket Union along with stadium sponsors Hollywoodbets have planned 100 events to commemorate the milestone for the iconic cricketing venue.

Kingsmead has established itself as one of the premier cricketing destinations in South Africa with a rich history that includes some of cricket’s most iconic moments from the Timeless Test to the first Proteas test match post isolation.

Heinrich Strydom is at the helm of KZN Cricket for these celebrations and the CEO feels an obligation to give Kingsmead the celebration that it deserves.

“To be here at a time where Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium is celebrating 100 years since the first test match is a privilege,” Strydom said.

“This stadium has stood the test of time and remains one of the cricketing pillars throughout the country and we felt it was important to pay our respects to such an iconic venue.”

“Not only will we be having 100 events that commemorate this incredible milestone, but we will also welcome back the Comrades Marathon to Kingsmead as the 2023 edition will once again finish here.”

Stadium sponsors Hollywoodbets are playing a critical role in driving the festivities and awareness around the 100 year celebrations and for Devin Heffer, Brand and Communications Manager at Hollywoodbets, it’s important to celebrate this milestone of a Durban icon.

“We have a huge appreciation for the players, ground staff, and administrators that have contributed towards the milestones achieved on this hallowed turf,” he said.
