Brothers collect pilling refuse in Margate

They are hopeful that their initiative will unite the community and encourage people to do good on a daily basis.

After Ray Nkonyeni Municipality allegedly failed to collect refuse in Margate for a week, a group of young men (Bhungane Brothers) took it upon themselves to collect refuse in the area.

According to Alwande Mbatha who also collected refuse with Bhungane Brothers, the initiative was selflessly accomplished by a dedicated team after they noticed the amount of pollution and the distress caused to residents.

“It is said that nothing great can be achieved unless we come together and work in unison for the greater good. This past five days, we saw a way that could potentially bring about positive change in our community. It was also an opportunity to be the saving grace of a toxic and hazardous situation. We took it upon ourselves to give back to the community through social responsibility and partake in the refuse removal obligation for the day. Complaining can only take one so far, at some point we have to take a stand and take action towards improving our living conditions.” he said, adding that they are hopeful that their initiative will unite the community and encourage people to do good on a daily basis.
