Durban’s cricket stadium to host Comrades finish

Comrades Marathon Association, race director Rowyn James showed excitement to rekindle the relationship with Kingsmead, but appreciates all the support that the Moses Mabhida Stadium has given to the race.

The 2023 Comrades Marathon will return to Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium when the iconic race finishes on Sunday, June 11.

The Ultimate Human Race has had a recent relationship with the Moses Mabhida Stadium, but due to a conflict in events, as the stadium is hosting the COSAFA Cup during June, the organisers have chosen Kingsmead as their finish venue.
Durban’s famous cricket stadium has hosted the race finish before.

“We’re very proud to welcome the Comrades Marathon back to Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium,” said CEO of KZN Cricket, Heinrich Strydom.
“The race is such an important event for the province of KwaZulu-Natal and for us as a stadium to play a part in the day is special.”

“We wish everyone all the very best for the day and we will welcome runners and spectators with traditional Kingsmead hospitality on the day.”
In a statement from the Comrades Marathon Association, race director Rowyn James showed excitement to rekindle the relationship with Kingsmead, but appreciates all the support that the Moses Mabhida Stadium has given to the race.

“Kingsmead Stadium is our preferred finish venue for this year’s Down Run, as the venue is accustomed to hosting the Comrades Marathon and the revised route should be an ease in transition for the runners,” he said.

“We would like to thank the team at MMS for partnering with CMA during the 2018 and 2022 races and we look forward to hosting our athletes.”
