Track Torque: Interesting start to new season

The Circus stays in the Middle East for the next race.

Max Verstappen did his usual best to win last weekend at Bahrain, but the big news was the huge improvement made by Aston Martin with “Old man” Fernando Alonso at the wheel. Team mate to Max Sergio Perez drove very well all weekend and helped bring all the spoils back for Red Bull, in second place. Fernando Alonso was on the podium with them in a very well deserved fight back into 3rd place.

The race was a bit disappointing for Ferrari who were lying 2nd and 3rd at one stage, as Charles Leclerc retired with technical problems, but Carlos Sainz made it home in 4th place. Lewis Hamilton was only two seconds behind Sainz after a very polished drive in the first of the two Mercedes. Team mate George Russell was immediately behind Lance Stroll in 6th and 7th places respectively.
They were all within seconds of each other and fought a close race to the finish. A bit further back came Valtteri Bottas in his Alfa Romeo with another gritty drive by the Fynn. Pierre Gasly was just a second behind Bottas in his new pink coloured Alpine Renault. In 9th position and Alexander Albon did very well to bring the revived Williams team’s first car home in 10th. New driver Logan Sargeant in the other Williams also did a great job in his first race to take 12th position.

The rise of Aston Martin was notable for a huge effort put in by Lance Stroll’s billionaire Father and the whole team, including both drivers. Lance himself was recovering from an injured hand, hurt in an accident just two weeks ago! I had also expected Mercedes to be stronger after showing much improvement at the end of last year. Time will tell as various teams play catch up in the days and weeks ahead. The Circus stays in the Middle East for the next race which is only two weeks away.
