Intruder kills Durban woman in Uvongo

The suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot.

Durban woman, Shalima Ramsanker, was shot dead last Saturday while on a holiday with her family in Uvongo.

According to Chatsworth Crime Watch, the 44-year-old was seated with her family on a veranda when they heard the alarm go off.
The watch group said soon after the alarm went off, the family heard gunshots on the floor above them, adding that they all ran inside the house for cover and closed the sliding door on the veranda.

“The deceased ran and tried to close the kitchen door but she met with an unknown male who fired several gunshots, and she was shot once in the chest. The suspect demanded money. As she tried to run to the bedroom area, she collapsed and died in the passage near the kitchen and the lounge area. The suspect then took two handbags containing personal documents, as well as bank cards and left the scene. As a result of the shooting, a flat screen TV was damaged. Three bullet fragments were found on the scene in the corner of the lounge area near the TV. The necessary experts were activated to the scene for investigation purposes,” said the group, adding that no one else was injured as a result of the shooting.

The Chatsworth Crime Watch also sent condolences to the Ramsanker family.
Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said Margate police are investigating charges of murder and house robbery after an incident where a 44-year-old woman was murdered during a suspected house robbery on Saturday, February 4 on Collin Road.

“It is alleged that the victims were accosted by an unknown man who robbed them of their belongings before fatally wounding the woman. The suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot,” said Netshiunda.
Comment from Ramsanker family had not been received at the time of going to press.
