School shoes for Bunguzwane pupils

The nurse embarked on the initiative to mark her 40th birthday and as a token of appreciation for her life's achievements.

Pupils of Bunguzwane High School were recent beneficiaries of 40 pairs of school shoes.
This comes after a professional nurse, Londiwe Dlamini, decided to take her ‘back to school’ programme to Umzumbe Municipality.

Dlamini was accompanied by nurses from the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital Thuthuzela Care Centre, Department of Education, ChildLine, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Lifeline, Vodacom, and Umzumbe Municipality.

The nurse embarked on the initiative to mark her 40th birthday and as a token of appreciation of her life’s achievements.
Dlamini who is originally from Scottburgh works as a professional nurse in Saudi Arabia.
Dlamini said after working with her friend and colleague previously, Duduzile Ndlovu, she reached out to her to assist on the ‘back to school’ project.

In Dlamini’s speech, she gave pupils an overview of her life and the reasons she decided to become a nurse.
She also asked pupils not to take the nursing profession for granted, making an example of her friend Ndlovu, saying that she was nationally recognised for her remarkable work as one of the best nurses in the country.
Pupils also benefitted from the information shared by Busisiwe Nxumalo from the Department of Education, Vodacom cluster specialist Sithembile Nxumalo, Lifeline advisor, Phumla Mkhwanazi, Sthembile Mhlongo and Duduzile Ndlovu from Port Shepstone Regional Hospital.

Sthembile Mhlongo warned pupils about teenage pregnancy and urged them to look into contraceptive methods, the advantages and disadvantages of using contraceptives.
Also, Duduzile Ndlovu motivated pupils by encouraging them to have role models that they can look up to.
The initiative by Dlamini was welcomed by the mayor of Umzumbe Municipality, Bongani Nyuswa.
In his speech, Nyuswa said the municipality has other programmes that help to improve the level of education within the municipality.
Nyuswa said these include the Umzumbe Matric Excellence Awards, career guidance, and the registration programme.
He advised pupils to visit the Umzumbe municipal offices for more information.
Meanwhile, the principal of Bunguzwane High School, Thulani Gumede, thanked Dlamini and all the stakeholders for the donation and the information shared, saying that he hopes it will make a positive impact in the lives of pupils.
