Witnesses to accident urged to come forward

Vorster said the firm is acting as the legal advisors for Sandra Merryl Swart.

A law firm is asking witnesses who saw an accident on February 25, 2020 on the corner of Seaslopes Boulevard and Mitchell Road, Margate, to come forward.

The director of Europlaw Group, Andre Vorster, told Fever that the accident claimed the life of Nico Swart who was out cycling when he was knocked over by a white Citi Golf driven by an elderly man.

Vorster said the firm is acting as the legal advisors for Sandra Merryl Swart.

“The local paramedics arrived quickly on the scene and Mr Swart was resuscitated and taken to Netcare Margate Hospital. He died on April 9, 2020 in Pretoria and both the Swart family and the appointed legal advisors acting on this matter are seeking witnesses that saw the accident happen, to come forward,” said Vorster.

He added that due to witnesses not coming forward, they are in the process of seeking a qualified accident reconstruction engineer to assist the family with the construction and measurements of how the actual accident happened.

At the time of the accident, KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service said in a statement: “At approximately 7.15am KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded to Seaslopes Road in Margate for reports of an accident. When emergency services arrived, they found that a car and cyclist had collided resulting in the bicycle and cyclist landing approximately 50 metres away from the point of impact, in oncoming traffic. Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that the cyclist had sustained critical injuries. The cyclist was stabilised on the scene before being transported to a local hospital.”

Meanwhile, Vorster of the Europlaw Group said people with information can contact Chiné van Niekerk on 083 444 8182 or Andre Vorster on 082 568 0012.
