Drug and illegal alcohol bust

All arrested suspects are due to appear in court soon.

Port Shepstone police say it is impossible to curb crime and the drug trade without valuable information supplied by members of the public and the efforts by all law enforcement.

Police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said this after police in Mehlomnyama made several arrests for dealing in liquor, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and possession of drugs.

“Crates of beer were confiscated and at least five people appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court recently on these charges. Eight persons were charged by members of SAPS Port Shepstone for dealing in liquor without a licence last weekend. A large amount of beer and a box of hard liquor was confiscated by police. Stop and searches and patrols in Betania, Marine Drive Shelly Beach and Marburg led to the arrest of nine people who were found in possession of drugs such as rock cocaine, dagga, mandrax and heroine capsules,” said Mpinge.

He added that while SAPS Hibberdene members were performing stop and search duties in Nomakhanzana area recently, they arrested a 36-year-old man who had in his possession tik straws and one heroine capsule.
Mpinge said information received led police members to Turton taxi rank where a 25-year-old suspect who tried to flee was arrested for possession of mandrax. “A 21-year-old female was arrested on January 8 in Hibberdene CBD for possession of heroin. All arrested suspects are due to appear in court soon,” said Mpinge.
