Amabhinca fans urged to support fashion show

The first-ever Amabhinca fashion show will be held in Durban on December 10.

Amabhinca inspired locals are invited to the Amabhinca fashion show at the eThekwini Music School on 551 Mahatma Ghandi Road in Durban on December 10.

Organiser, Sizakele Sibiya of Asiphinkazimulo Supplier said this is the first fashion show of its kind and is aimed at keeping the Amabhinca culture alive on the KwaZulu-Natal map.

“As black people we deserve to be recognised, hence we strongly believe in our traditions. It will also give our local designers a platform to showcase their talents in the clothing and textile industry,” said Sibiya.

She said the fashion show targets designers from deep rural areas, who have minimal employment opportunities and cannot market their merchandise.

The show will have three categories – traditional attire, artist designers and brands.

“In the traditional attire category we will have local designers such as Mhlongo and Xolani Nene. In our artist designers’ category we have designers who will make garments for our Maskandi artists; Sihle Xulu who will design for Inkosi Yamagcokama; Ketha Ngobese who will design for Bahube; Thule Mthembu for Thwasa Lekhansela; Caleb Khumalo for Khuzani, Sihle Mthembu for Igcokama Elisha and Nkanyiso Mbanjwa for Thokozani Langa,” Sibiya explained.

In the brands category, we will have different brands – Bhinca Nation, Siswenka Sonke, MOA, UB, Name Tag, Integrated, Head Turner, Blue Dog, Awugeze Nawe, Borntorn Clothing, Gabgarich and Bangenele Clothing.

“The brands will incorporate designs for Amabhinca groups, those who wear the same attires, the same T-shirts with Brentwood pants, etc.,” said Sibiya.

She said the event will be an annual one and the invitation is extended to Amabhinca fans all over the province to come along and support.
