Homework Club hopes to bag business award

The third annual TNB awards which are hosted by Umlando Creatives will be held at the Wild Coast Sun on December 15.

“I was born to be an employer not employee.”

These are the words of Zimkhitha Tshobonga who was nominated for The Next Billionaire Awards (TNB) under the category, Upcoming Business.

Tshobonga who is originally from Gamalakhe said the name of her business is Homework Club with Aunty Zimmy, where she assists children doing Grade 1 to Grade 12 with their homework.

The former Port Shepstone High School pupil said her passion for this business started during the Covid-19 lockdown.
She said schools were rotating which meant that a lot of work was done at home.

She added that teaching and learning became an extreme sport, saying that it seemed impossible.
“This frustrated a lot of stakeholders, pupils, teachers and mostly parents. I started off assisting family members, cousins, and siblings.

Then later, neighbours and the children of the people I go to church with. This initiative became an amazing opportunity for me and the community of Gamalakhe at large. I was able to assist because I was unemployed. God works in mysterious ways, I started getting a lot of clients, I was amazed because I was not ready, at the same time I was excited,” she said, adding that she did house calls at first since moving around was prohibited for everyone.

Tshobonga said the Homework Club was a blessing to working parents, adding that it still is.
She said during lockdown essential workers could not stay at home, they had to be at work, adding that this is where she came in. She said she basically she saw a gap in the market and never looked back.
Speaking of her nomination for The Next Billionaire Awards, Tshobonga said the nomination is one of my answered prayers.

“I am very excited about it. Sis Lungile Mbili of Umlando Creatives saw my business poster on Facebook and she called me, she told me that she has never seen anything like this initiative and that she would like to profile my business for free. I was a bit anxious at first but in the long run I realised that it’s time for growth. We then had an interview in June this year which was aired in July on channel 261-1KZN on the show called The Next Billionaire. In September, Sis Lungile called me again but this time to tell about my nomination, she also congratulated me,” she said.

Tshobonga said her nomination was a wake up call, adding that it was encouragement and motivation to do more. She said she knows that she is capable and able.

“My ultimate goal is to build a school and employ (create job opportunities) the best tutors/teachers in the country, the main purpose of the school would be to assist children with homework after school, offer extra lessons and in the process to make teaching and learning fun,” she said, adding that if you have a business idea that you believe is viable, don’t sleep on it but pursue it.

“It might change your life, like how Homework Club has changed my life,” she said.
The third annual TNB awards which is hosted by Umlando Creatives will be held at the Wild Coast Sun on December 15.
Voting lines will close on November 20.
