Track Torque: Brilliant win by Sergio in Singapore

Singapore, under adverse conditions, with a slowly drying track under the lights at night is a formidable challenge where some drivers can lose up to 5kg of body mass at this very humid venue.

After a brilliant drive in difficult conditions Sergio Perez was the victor at the Marina Bay circuit in Singapore.

Perez was harried for most of the race by a very determined Charles Leclerc but in the end he (Leclerc) was beaten to the flag by the Mexican by 2.5 seconds.

The Ferraris both behaved well to make it onto the podium in second and third places, with Carlos Sainz coming in behind Leclerc.

At this very-difficult-to-overtake venue, like the other great street track, Monaco, championship leader Max Verstappen just could not make a comeback during the race, and had to settle for seventh position in the end.

He started out in eighth and went backwards after a poor start, having to get past Valtteri Bottas, Pierre Gasly, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel for his final seventh spot.

Next up, after good solid drives were the McLaren Mercedes team of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

Lance Stroll kept his cool and stayed out of trouble with a very good drive into sixth spot, just two seconds ahead of Verstappen.

In eighth and ninth positions were the two multiple world champions in Vettel and Hamilton.

Pierre Gasly picked up the last points position, in tenth.

The final positions as above do not show the difficulties and challenges experienced by many of the top drivers.

Singapore, under adverse conditions, with a slowly drying track under the lights at night is a formidable challenge where some drivers can lose up to 5kg of body mass at this very humid venue.

We now travel north-east to Japan for the next race, at Suzuka, also a very demanding, very technical track this Sunday, October 9.

The Honda-engined Red Bulls hope to give their makers good results and perhaps Verstappen could secure the championship.
