Sheppie Hawks recover 500 grams of cocaine

The 46-year-old appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Friday, September 16.

The Hawks from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit recently arrested a 46-year-old man for possession of drugs worth R204 750.

According to Hawks spokesperson, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, Ashwin Jugnandan was arrested by the Port Shepstone team and the Metro Police Drug Team, saying that the arrest was made at Cornubia Mall in Durban.

“The members received information about a suspect who was transporting drugs around the Durban North area and an intelligence driven operation was conducted.

He was spotted at the mall and a search of his vehicle was conducted. Police found 500g of pure cocaine powder and mandrax tablets with a street value of approximately R204 750,” said Mhlongo, adding that Jugnandan was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of drugs as well as dealing in drugs.

Mhlongo added that the 46-year-old appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Friday, September 16.
