Man arrested for failure to appear in court

He decided to not appear before Ezingolweni Regional Court for trial and a warrant of arrest was issued.

A 37-year-old man was recently arrested for failing to appear before the Ezingolweni Regional Court.

Sizwe Mjoli was arrested last week by the Hawks Port Shepstone Provincial Organised Crime Task Team.

Hawks spokesperson, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said Mjoli was arrested on June 18, 2021 for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of a hijacked vehicle at KwaMachi area in Harding.

Mhlongo said he appeared in the Ezingolweni Magistrate’s Court and his bail was opposed successfully.

“He appealed bail refusal of the court a quo and Pietermaritzburg High Court granted him bail. He then decided not to appear before Ezingolweni Regional Court for trial and a warrant of arrest was issued. Provincial Organised Crime Task Team received information of his whereabouts and he was arrested in the Eastern Cape. Mjoli appeared in the Ezinqoleni Magistrate Court and was remanded in custody,” said Mhlongo.
