Zoleka Melody Dlamini wants to bag the Miss Petite Global South Africa and in the process, use the pageant’s title to promote the importance of education.
The 20-year-old finalist described the competition as one that encourages young girls to be comfortable in their own skin and bodies.

She said she entered because it improves self-esteem and teaches the spirit of Ubuntu, as it challenges entrants to lend a hand to those who are in need, through charity work.

The Durban University of Technology student said should she win she would use the title to promote the importance of education, raise awareness of gender-based violence and also spread awareness about volunteering to help those who are less fortunate.

Originally from the St Faiths area, Zoleka said she had always had a passion for modelling.

“But I had very low self-esteem. My mom and former residence advisor, Khanyisile Biyela, made me realise that no one is perfect in this journey. They helped me understand what my strengths were and what my weaknesses are. I was taught the importance of focusing on myself, promoting and developing myself. That is where I told myself that I will not stop until my goals are realised,” she said.

Zoleka said she needs a total of 1 000 votes to reach the top 40.

Meanwhile, Zoleka said her goal is to be an internationally recognised model and one day become Miss South Africa.

“I want to inspire everyone that if I can it then they can, too.”

And to everyone who feels like giving up on their dreams, she says: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and he shall establish your plans. Remember, aim for the moon even if you don’t catch it, aim for the stars. You are stronger than you know.”
