Kidnapped interim leader’s son shot dead

Mqondisi Ngcobo is the son of the kidnapped Qiniselani Manyuswa Traditional Council interim leader, Makhosandile Ngcobo.

The situation is still tense at the Qiniselani Manyuswa Traditional Council in Izongolweni, after Mqondisi Ngcobo was gunned down at the Wema Taxi Rank in Durban on Sunday.

Ngcobo is the son of the kidnapped Qiniselani Manyuswa Traditional Council interim leader, Makhosandile Ngcobo.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, said Montclair Saps was called to the Wema Taxi Rank in eThekwini, where on arrival, they were shown a body of a 27-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds.

“On July 17 at 8.45am, the man was shot and killed. A case of murder was opened at Montclair Saps and the matter is still under investigation,” said Ngcobo.

She added that the kidnapping case of the deceased’s father was also still under investigation.

It has been a year since the interim leader of the Qiniselani Manyuswa Traditional Council was allegedly kidnapped at his Izingolweni home.

Makhosandile Ngcobo was allegedly abducted by armed men posing as police in April 2021.

Ngcobo’s older brother, Felokwakhe Ngcobo told Fever that his family is clouded with bad luck, saying that while most people were finding their loved ones during the recent floods, they still have not found their brother.

Makhosandile was appointed as the council’s regent in June 2020, pending the finalisation of a paternity investigation which had led to a succession battle within the family.

According to sources, shortly after Makhosandile’s appointment there had been an attempt on his life.

Makhosandile Ngcobo’s brother, Felokwakhe said: “What is sad is that since the kidnapping, not one person has come forward, even with false information. At this point, we would even appreciate lies about my brother’s whereabouts because we are desperate.”
