Three suspects were arrested.

A total of 175 heroin capsules, 22 packets of crystal meth, and five half mandrax tablets were confiscated by Margate police on Thursday last week

According to Margate police spokesperson, Sergeant Sibu Ncane, police received information on a man who was selling drugs at the Margate Taxi Rank.

“Margate police proceeded to the rank where a 29-year-old man was found with various drugs. The man was arrested and detained at Margate police cells. A total of 175 heroin capsules, 22 packets of crystal meth, and five half mandrax tablets were confiscated,” said Ncane.

He added that in another incident on July 7, the Margate SAPS drug team proceeded to the Gcilima area near a local school where information was received about drug dealing in a private home.

Ncane said police managed to arrest three suspects aged between 26 and 48.

“They were charged with dealing in drugs. Three capsules of heroin and 21 half mandrax tablets were found on them,” said Ncane, adding that on Friday, July 8, they appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court.

He said the court granted them bail of R1 500 each. “The case was remanded to August 11,” said Ncane.

Meanwhile, Margate station commander, Brigadier William Slabbert applauded the police members for their good work and encouraged the public for reporting drug-related crimes to the police.
