Bog Boys bag R30 000 winner’s cheque at Tweni2’s surf compo

In last week's paper it was mentioned that the Bog Boys were Shane Sykes and Chad du Toit, when in fact the Bog Boys were winners Brandon Jackson and Josh Redman.

The Tweni2’s Pairs surfing competition had proven a popular event on the South Coast, attracting some world class surfers.

This was the fourth edition, with the last two years not being held due to Covid.

In last week’s paper it was mentioned that the Bog Boys were Shane Sykes and Chad du Toit, when in fact the Bog Boys were winners Brandon Jackson and Josh Redman.

They walked away with a cheque to the tune of R30 000.

Shane and Chad surfed as Avo Chicken in this unique event, where surfers compete as a team of two.

There was some consolation for Shane as he won the prizes for best air and best wave. One was sponsored by the Osborne family, presented by daughter Angela in memory of her late father Darryl, aka Doe, who was something of a ‘Tweni legend’. The other was sponsored by a Tweni resident who wished to remain anonymous.

The organisers, Peter and Derek Horlock, thanked all the surfers for their support, as well as the sponsors who came on board (excuse the pun) in a big way.

Funds raised will go towards helping some of the Ugu Surfriders get to the SA Champs later in the year.

On a lighter note, Derek is now in the USA, more specifically Montauk in the Hamptons, playground of the rich and famous.

He’s helping a friend give surfing lessons for the next three months or so.

It wasn’t the best timing as his sister Kate, her husband, and four children only last week travelled from Illinois in the USA to visit.

This after they haven’t seen each other for close on 12 years.
