Three shot dead in Oslo Beach

There are people who are targeting taxi associations in the Ugu region with the intention of forcefully taking over their routes.

“There are people who are targeting taxi associations in the Ugu region with the intention of forcefully taking over their routes.”

The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson, Mduduzi Makhunga, said this after a 41-year-old man who allegedly worked in the taxi industry was gunned down in Oslo Beach last Sunday.

Makhunga told Fever that everyone is confused as to who is shooting who and why.

He added that although the SANTACO in Ugu has not reported the recent shooting to the province, they cannot deny that taxi operators are being killed.

“On Thursday last week, KZN police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi held a meeting for taxi operators in the Ugu and Harry Gwala districts to find out what the issue is and possible solutions,” said Makhunga.

He added that the shootings in the taxi industry must come to an end, saying that those who have useful information on who is behind them must contact the police.

Meanwhile, KZN police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said on May 22, police received a complaint of a shooting that took place on Marine Drive in Oslo Beach and proceeded to the scene.

“On arrival, they were shown a vehicle with three bodies with multiple gunshot wounds. It is alleged that the victims were seated in the vehicle when a vehicle that was driving behind them opened fire, fatally wounding two females victims aged 25 and a 41-year-old male,” said Gwala.

Gwala added that charges of murder were opened at Port Shepstone police station for investigations, saying the motive of the killing is unknown.

Speaking to Fever, Ward 18 councillor Douglas Rawlins said he condemns this type of behaviour.

Rawlins said the news came as a shock since the area is peaceful.

“We condemn violent crimes of assassination not only in Oslo Beach,” said Rawlins
