Pensioners found dead

They were killed by intruders around midnight on Thursday, last week.

Two pensioners, aged 90 and 68 were recently found dead by Southport police in their Mambeni home, in the KwaMadlala area under Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

According to the pensioners’ son, Simo Malunga, his parents Mlungiselwa and Mantombazana Malunga.were allegedly killed by intruders around midnight on Thursday, last week.

He added that he does not know why his parents were killed in such a brutal manner. He said the perpetrators who invaded their home allegedly killed them with a bush knife.

Malunga added that his home is large with seven rooms, and his sister was in one of the bedrooms that is further from his parents’ bedroom.

He said his sister heard a noise from their parents’ bedroom and rushed to to see what was happening, but she found the door locked.

“My sister tried to get out of the house to call me because I live in an outside building, but when she got outside she saw someone standing outside at the window of our parents’ bedroom. She ran back into the house because she saw that we were being attacked,” said Malunga.

He added that his sister then tried calling him but could not reach him, then she called one of their other sisters who is married.

He said his sisters called their uncles and they only managed to get hold of him (Malunga) around 2am.

“We rushed home and we found that the window in my parents’ bedroom was open. When we looked inside the bedroom, we saw them lying there in a pool of blood, naked. They were both killed with a bush knife. The funeral will be in Mambeni, Ward 14 in KwaMadlala on Saturday,” said Malunga.

He added that the police did take their statements and said they would be investigating the case, but we have not received any feedback from them as yet.

According to Port Shepstone police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge, the couple’s daughter contacted police on April 21 after being woken up by a noise.

Mpinge said a case of murder was registered for investigation at SAPS Southport after the couple was attacked while sleeping at Mambeni ward in Madlala area, Umzumbe on April 21.

“It is alleged that the victims’ daughter woke up after hearing a noise and contacted the police who found the couple deceased. Entry was gained through a window,” said Mpinge.
