OPINION: What is Ugu’s issue with Marburg?

The writer feels Marburg is being left out when it come to service delivery.

In the last week, Carnation Drive in Marburg has had three water line breaks.

Break 1: This occurred at the entrance of Carnation Drive and resulted in the excavation of the entrance of the road to carry out the repair. This was done last week Tuesday. The excavation remains open, with half the road being blocked off.

Break 2: This occurred at the end of Carnation Drive on Friday, September 20. Water to Carnation Drive, Daffodil Road and parts of Tulip Place was shut off on Friday and only restored on Monday. During this time, Ugu plumbers came to site on each day, had a look, and said a TLB was needed. Only on Monday did actual work take place. Further to this, only on Monday did a water tanker arrive to supply some sort of relief to the 100 plus households affected. Why was work so slow to be carried out? Why did it take three days for a tanker to come?

Break 3: This occurred at the corner of Carnation Drive and Tulip Place, with fresh water streaming down the road.

Again, I ask, what is Ugu’s issue with Marburg? Why is service delivery slow, slack and shoddy when it comes to Marburg?

Is it racial because the majority of residents are Indian? Is it political because the ward is a DA ward?
