BRONWYN TANNER: Tuning In – Elderly given a helping hand

Community news and events for the mid-South Coast area.

Creston College’s Nic Doveton and Trinity-Mia Klokie, in the true spirit of Ubuntu in Heritage Month, started their school holidays last week by packing and delivering over 160 care hampers with toiletries and treats to the residents of the two homes that The Elders Voice in Pennington run.

Trinity-Mia’s mum, Tracy-Ann Klokie, a local businesswoman and founder of Hearts in Hands, was thrilled when the teens approached her with their wishes and plans to bless and visit the elderly folk in their community.

On another note, it appears that we now have a fifth season – ‘Springter’. Snow and icy rain were the order of the day. Such a dreadful experience for those caught on the road between Johannesburg and Durban last weekend. We were cold; imagine those people in their cars.

The traffic lights at the intersection of the R102 and Margaret Avenue (opposite Scottburgh Mall) have not worked for a number of weeks. It is approached as a four-way stop and works exceptionally well. Perhaps better than when the traffic lights were working.

Another power outage: As I typed this on Monday evening this week, Pennington was in the dark for over 12 hours. No reason was given; no restoration time.
