OPINION: Hibberdene fire heroes hailed

Cllr Tessa Perryman is truly humbled by the help, support, kindness and generosity shown by so many.

Damage caused by the fire at Anchors Aweigh, Woodgrange, Hibberdene on August 31 could have been worse had it not been for the brave men and women who put their lives in danger to help.

As the ward councillor, I thank you all for your noble act of kindness.

The support, help and donations that have been given to the four victims has been overwhelming. For now, they have all that they need – thank you.

The insurer has been to evaluate the nine units that were damaged and will disclose, hopefully soon, what the structural insurance payout will be. Only then can the rebuilding of these nine units start.

There are numerous offers for furniture, household appliances, crockery, linen, etc. Until the units have been rebuilt, sadly, we cannot accept any of these thoughtful donations, as there is no storage place.

Yet, if you would like to help, please can we ask to rather do a monetary donation (no matter the amount, every R10 will help) into the trust fund which has been opened.

This will be distributed evenly between the damaged units.

The body corporate, unit owners and I truly appreciate all the help thus far. Other than cash donations, for now, no more items are needed, thank you.

I am truly humbled by the help, support, kindness and generosity shown by so many, not only from our ward but from the South Coast, and I thank you all.
