OPINION: Deliver and show us you care

"Politicians, please live up to your promises, after all we did vote for you."

Would it not be great to be able as a South African to put pen to paper or fingertips to keyboard and compose a suitably worded letter that praises a South African notable.

By notable, I refer to a government, or municipal official or department, obviously aligned with the ruling political party, that has actually delivered on a promise.

It is too simple an act to say what is intended to be done but to actually implement the actions required to fulfil the promise.

The favourite ploy nowadays is to say the actionable request has been upgraded to a higher authority for implementation – but those are just words that the authorities spout to appease the citizens.

In short, those grander words count for nought unless something is done.

Ask South Africans about those empty promises which have become so familiar.

Would it not be nice to be able to praise instead of being played the fool.

Politicians, please live up to your promises; after all, we did vote for you recently.
