Marburg residents demand answers from RNM

Residents of Marburg and Merlewood are fed up with the lack of service and influx of crime.

This is an open letter to the managers of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM).
You have failed the people of Marburg and Merlewood.

Your blatant disregard for the rights and safety of residents, road users and pedestrians is glaringly obvious.
Crime is rampant in Marburg and Merlewood.
Prostitutes and drug dealers freely operate in broad daylight.

‘Paras’ and thieves are able to have their way in the area. Yet complaints to your respective departments fall on deaf ears.
Bylaws are broken indiscriminately and there is zero law enforcement presence in both Marburg and Merlewood to enforce said by-laws.

Mechanics operate and trucks park illegally on Watterson Street.
Taxis also park illegally on Watterson Street and are washed illegally by ‘paras’.

Are you as RNM Law Enforcement and Saps scared to enforce the law? How are taxis able to do as they please? Do you answer to them?

The traffic lights at Marburg Secondary and KFC intersections don’t work quite often.
The pedestrian traffic light between these two intersections has not worked for more than a year.

These three points are some of the busiest on the entire South Coast, yet there is little to no presence of Law Enforcement during peak periods to ensure traffic flows smoothly, pedestrians are safe and the rules of the road are adhered to. Why is this?

On January 24, a pedestrian was hit by a truck at the KFC intersection and died on scene.

On November 6, a pedestrian was admitted to hospital after being hit by a car at the pedestrian intersection.
How is it that there is little to no presence of Saps and Law Enforcement in Marburg and Merlewood, yet on January 21 on Watterson Street, three Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) vehicles with officers and three Law Enforcement vehicles with officers were parked at the KFC intersection?

How is it that at the same time there were another three Law Enforcement vehicles and two Saps vehicles, both with officers at Marburg grounds?

The people that you fail want answers.

MAXWELL ROCKATANSKY
Marburg
