OPINION: Roads in a dismal state

The roads are Deepvale Road (from start to end) and Moore Road.

I am a taxpayer and ratepayer in Port Shepstone. I reside in Grosvenor and the state of the road which I use daily is dismal, it’s more surface area covered by potholes instead of drivable road.

The potholes are unavoidable and have caused damage to my vehicle and the vehicles of many others.
The recent rains have made the potholes worse. The roads are Deepvale Road (from start to end) and Moore Road. When will these roads be repaired?

There are so many other roads in Port Shepstone which need to be redone too.
Another point of concern is that there is a section of road in front of Marburg Secondary School which was damaged by potholes (roughly 2mx3m). I noticed about 10 construction workers on site, along with a TLB and other machinery.

With experience in construction, I can say that the job did not need a TLB or that many workers. The job was also not completed as the road was still bumpy.
The municipality must ensure that the companies they contract know what they are doing and can complete jobs efficiently.

We pay our rates and taxes on time, however the roads that we have to drive on daily are horrific. And, we are expected to wait long periods before it is repaired.

The municipality is urged to urgently advise on what the timeline is in terms of assessing and repairing the roads mentioned.
