OPINION: ‘Just do your very best’ in 2024′

"Let each new day give fellow South Africans another chance to be kind to each other because officialdom does not really care."

Well, the year 2024 is here and may we all hope for a much-improved year, but unfortunately only time and the Minister of Electricity can be the bearer of the good news.

I must admit, I did think that the grinch had stolen Christmas as the usual jollity in and on the faces of my fellow South Africans was missing.

The only folks that were looking filled with the spirit of joy and giving were seen on TV and most of them appeared to be government employed persons.
Obviously, to them life is good – but do they actually reside in the world where my fellow South Africans draw breath? Need I answer that?

Be that as it may, we normal South Africans soldiered on and made the best of the situation and tried to leave the credit card where it belongs, in the home safe.

Nobody would want that monkey on your shoulder, tugging at your ear every time the card was inserted sensuously into the pay point machine.

Remember, fellow South Africans, January is here and so does the credit card statement and it is not wrapped in tinsel with pretty bows – more like barbed wire and prickly thorns, so be prepared.
But take heart from the fact that our future does look bright, even though we will no doubt be back to the Eskom ‘share-our-incompetence’ loadshedding, but we have been promised, not forever.
Forever is a long time, especially as you watch the candles in your home burning down until the dancing, flickering flame splutters and dies.

Remember, each sunrise brings the promise of a new day.
Let each new day give fellow South Africans another chance to be kind to each other because officialdom does not really care.

Charity begins with you and helping those among us who need and will appreciate the helping hand and the smile of genuine care.

Happy new year my fellow South Africans and enjoy the extra day in February, it being a Leap Year.
To end on a positive note to quote the SAAF mottos of ‘Per Aspera Ad Astra’: Just do your very best people.
More than that cannot be expected of you! Blessing to you all for 2024.
