BRONWYN TANNER: Tuning In – Sign up as a member of Pennington Recreation Club

Community news and events for Pennington and surrounding areas.

For those unaware, Pennington Recreation Club is the owner and custodian of Relton Hall and was formed in 1953.

Laurel Pennington donated a piece of land and a thatched roof clubhouse was built in 1961, which unfortunately burnt down in 1977. The Pennington community collected funds and built the current hall which was officially opened in June 1980. Relton Hall is available for use by all residents of Pennington. The various activities and functions provided by the Pennington Recreation Club generate the funds required for the running and maintenance of the facility.

An invitation is extended to all residents of Pennington to become members of the Recreation Club in order to preserve this valuable asset for future generations. Volunteers are also invited to arrange fundraising events at the hall, or make donations to contribute to the much needed roof repair. Membership forms can be obtained by emailing reltonhall@yahoo.com. Current membership fees are R100 per year.

The following activities occur regularly in Relton Hall:
• Chess class on Fridays from 15:00 to 17:00 at R10 per participant. Contact Silvano Borea for further information on 081 0449342.
• Table tennis and other board games. For further information contact Karen Veleur on 082 7864971.
• Canasta on the second and fourth Thursday of the month from 10:30 to 12:30 at R20 per person. Contact Karen Davy for more information on 076 2974457.

A reminder to all non-profit organisations – this is your column – this is your space to advertise your events free of charge. Email information to bronwyn@scottburgh.co.za Remember, happiness is always an inside job.

Scottburgh Lions recently donated dog food to local NPO 4 Paws and a Tail Rescue. Seen at the handover are (from left) Wendy Barwell, Eileen Cann, Nicky Koekemoer (4 Paws), Priscilla Tedder and Malcolm Caine.
