OPINION: Eskom needs to show it’s sorry

The words are like clouds in the sky which, on closer inspection, are full of nothingness.

My dear fellow South Africans. We slumped into our early evening loadshedding segment at 19:00 and are in the dark until 21:00.

Fortunately, this is a short blackout and not the despised and hated four hour stint.
Whenever the Eskom advisory about how under pressure the electricity grid is appears on TV, with the slogan

‘Together We Make the Difference’ I think so whose problem is that?

We, the people, did not secretly and surreptitiously gather in clandestine groups, in darkened rooms where passwords are needed to gain entrance, where conspiratory plans were concocted to facilitate the teetering collapse of the electricity grid of our country.

No! This present strained dysfunctionality of the system is due, in essence, to the total incompetence and disdain of the staff at Eskom.

To me, after throwing the ‘Together We Make the Difference’ in the toilet, where it belongs, it is clear to me that we are being treated as ill-behaved adolescents who have broken the rules.
This is our punishment because we, personally, had somehow interfered with the planned upgrading of the power stations, therefore, we must be chastised for this preventative action of ours.

What better way to make us regret our actions than to take away our household electricity supply for periods during the day? (That will teach them.) Well if this is meant to teach us, how about bringing to book those employees who did not do their jobs, who did not fulfill their job descriptions, who did nothing!

And please Eskom, do not, as other utilities do in times of crisis, say to us loyal South Africans that you apologise for the inconvenience.

You do not mean it. The words are empty. The words are like clouds in the sky which, on closer inspection, are full of nothingness.
If you want to show how sorry you are, learn from your mistake so it does not happen again. Batho Pele, please.
