OPINION: Guardians of coast’s feral cat colonies thanked

Cat carers dip into their own pockets when donations run dry.

I would like to thank the unnoticed, selfless and phenomenal women who work behind the scenes feeding and caring for the feral cat colonies along the South Coast.

I have done a bit of digging into this story and the feral carers are namely, Trudie Roets, Gail Roets and Melissa van Zyl – to name a few.
However these particular individuals have sacrificed their livelihoods to look after these homeless angels with some support from the community – not a lot though, but every cent does help!

These cat carers dip into their own pockets when donations run dry, as this is a day-to-day situation.
Every person has a different opinion on ferals, some think they are pests and others wish to see them prosper and live a full, long and beautiful life.

These feral sweethearts have beating hearts and souls just like us humans and deserve to have full tummies and a happy life.
They didn’t ask to be here, and the South Coast feral organisations work tirelessly, to ensure there is a decrease in the population by trapping and sterilizing any new cats which join the colonies. This also costs a lot of money.
Trudie Roets runs an organisation, South Coast Ferals and is in the process of getting a NPO number. It’s been a really long process and in the interim, she has had to rely on donations (by faith) from the community which is excruciatingly difficult.

We all make choices, but these amazing humans have chosen not to turn a blind eye to the suffering of our feral kitty cats in need. It’s a lifestyle, and they face the trauma and heartache that most choose to ignore.

My deepest and heartfelt thanks to these feral fosterers and carers behind the scenes.
You guys work around the clock and don’t get much recognition. I see you!

You take food out of your own mouths to feed the hungry cats or bottle feed dumped/abandoned or misplaced (mother is killed) kittens. You sit up at night feeding the kittens – never clocking off while still trying to make ends meet.
Also medicating the sick and the injured cats.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for all the things you do that go unnoticed. You do it out of love and passion, and you truly make a difference in their lives.

A big thanks also goes out to those who donate in faith (while Trudie awaits her NPO number). Without this little bit that comes in, the feral cats would truly be enduring a far worse scenario.
Just saying thanks!
