BRONWYN TANNER: Tuning in – Halloween celebrations and road projects on the cards

Community news and events for Pennington and surrounding areas.

The year has flown! Two months and we are in 2023. Best wishes to the Grade 12s who are writing their finals.

A community member reported about bad service at the vehicle licensing department in Scottburgh. It appears that the employees go out of their way, to find fault with the paperwork, so they can send the customer away. While waiting to be served, she noticed that an elderly gentleman was trying to get his vehicle licensed. She could hear by the conversation, the teller was giving this old man a hard time, and enjoying it. The suggestion is that the employees should be trained to be competent and polite to customers. It would make a difference to receive polite, efficient and friendly service.

On a personal note, being kind to customers makes the day so much more fun. Kind creates kind.

The past weekend was full of Halloween ‘celebrations’.

Councillor Edwin Baptie advised that he met with the consulting engineer for the road rehabilitation project. The current phase is targeting some of the priority roads submitted for attention and is to be completed with road marking and signage by the middle of December.

These roads are Pennington Drive, Umdoni North, Whale, Dolphin, Savell, Robert, Marlin, Shark, Oceanic, Saville and Preston. Paving on Pennington Drive is scheduled for this coming week. The next phase will be pothole repairs from the balance left in the budget, on a priority basis. This phase is for completion by March 2023.
R&M Construction will deposit more material at the same site next to Relton Hall for residents who are able to do pothole repairs. Cllr Baptie will arrange for materials in Park Rynie for residents who are prepared to assist with repairs. Minerva Road has been repaired by P&G Construction.

Cllr Baptie will submit a priority list for pothole repairs from Park Rynie north to Pennington. The clean up and improvement programme under Tidy Towns Pennington is gaining momentum.

The Nkomba beach site has been transformed under the management of Mark Davy.

We are making a difference to our environment and our community, through constructive involvement. Amen to that – Edwin Baptie
