Ramsgate water supply: Open letter to Ugu mayor Phumlile Mthiyane

Urgent intervention is sought by folk desperate for consistent water supply.

I refer today (Tuesday 23rd) to the ongoing lack of water supply in Wedge Road and Glenmarkie Street areas of Ramsgate.

This area has, and still is, suffering from a lack of water for years now and it is totally unacceptable to the residents that they are not receiving regular supply.

Residents are most frustrated and are now threatening violent actions to force a solution to their problem, and to restore their rights to water.

The problem is that the system only supplies water when the Ramsgate south reservoir is full as this is a high lying area and is reliant on gravity feed.

This matter has been discussed with officials and discussed at length with them.

The officials all understand that the problem needs a solution but, to date, nothing has been done to address the issue.

We urgently need your intervention to address this issue as a matter of extreme urgency.

Additionally, you should also also take into account that the Ramsgate south area has been without any supply for several days now without any information being given to residents.

It is also imperative that you personally address these residents and explain what Ugu is going to do to solve this problem and restore their supply, which as you are aware is a basic human right.

The letter was sent to Ugu for comment but none has been forthcoming.
