Tuning in: Pennington Conservancy appoints committee members

Community news and events for Pennington and surrounding areas.

Grateful thanks to all those involved in the re-opening of the R102 between Scottburgh Mall and Bram Fischer Street.

It was closed for over four months and the frustration has been enormous. It is good to be ‘back to normal’.

Mary Eckley, lady president at Scottburgh Golf Club turned 89 on August 8, and celebrated with a ladies tea at the club.

The Pennington Conservancy committee held its first meeting. The chairperson is Mary McKenzie, treasurer Billy Pritchard, secretary Linda Stead and Mike Lillyman.

The portfolios are as follows: Environmental – Simon Boyle and Mary McKenzie. Duties include the Beach Café gardens, Makamati Trails, dune rehabilitation, alien vegetation, beach and Nkomba.

Finance – Billy Pritchard; recycling – Marcel Verleur; marketing and advertising – Viv Sandwith including social media marketing, PC Kids, talks and events. Linda Stead is in charge of administration.

The conservancy thanks the committee who volunteer their time. Anyone with expertise, or would like to lend a hand as a volunteer in any of the above portfolios should email penningtonconservancy@gmail.com

The conservancy advises that it would like to use the Beach Café for more community events. The public should contact the café to discuss requirements for clubs and groups. An art exhibition would be a great idea.

This little dog, ‘Baby’ sits outside a local supermarket and waits for his master to finish shopping. Baby doesn’t move one paw towards the shop. The love between Deagen Burder and the dog is very special.
Congratulations to Anabella Edwards who is the U11 female Nipper of the year.
