DEAR Editor;
I recently had a horrible experience in the CBD of Port Shepstone. I don’t often go into Sheppie due to the crime, so I thought if I went early (7.45am) there would be few thugs around. I went into a shop to buy my cleaning materials (10 x five litre bottles), so I put the large bottles into a trolley to get them to my car.
I was approached by a very friendly car guard who offered to assist me and offload the bottles into my car. Then I saw one of the bottles were leaking so I said just leave it in the trolley and I’ll take it back to the shop.
I gave him money, and the next thing I felt this tugging around my neck. Although my chain was difficult to break he eventually managed to.
I screamed for help but nobody assisted, which I do understand people are too frightened to come forward these days.
I did, however manage to hit him with my handbag. But he ran off in the direction of the taxi rank. I called the police who arrived very quickly who took a description of the chain – but sadly no luck!
Something must be done about these illegal car guards/trolley pushers!
